Mattress Cleaning

Mattress Cleaning – Why? How? When? Who?

Did you know that your mattress could contain millions of dust mites that are silently feeding off your dead skin?

We spend a third of our lives in bed, so sustaining a clean mattress is enormously important to you and your family’s health. If your mattress is not clean, it could cause sleep deprivation and greatly affect your health.

Allergies & Health Concerns

It’s been proven that most mattresses contain bacteria, fungi and dust mites in quantities that are at potentially dangerous levels. The average mattress is also home to 1.4 kilograms of hard and dead skin flakes. This is in addition to the protein stains left by traces of sweat, blood and urine that embed themselves into the fabric of your mattress. Exposure to these residues and microorganisms can lead to skin allergies, hay fever or serious respiratory illnesses such as asthma.

40% of Australians have allergies and 80% of asthmatics can react to dust mites. Dust mite excrement is what we react to and can be the cause of sinus symptoms, poor sleep, headaches, itchy or watery eyes, depression, sneezing and fatigue. There are also pathogens found in dust mite excrement that can be responsible for eczema and other foul skin conditions.

What Are Dust Mites?

Dust mites are microscopic bugs that are found more predominantly in warm, humid and dark environments. They thrive in the stable indoor environments of homes, even at high altitude. They flourish in your mattresses, pillows and bed linen. Even in dry climates, dust mites survive and reproduce easily in bedding, which absorbs moisture from body contact.

Due to their micro size – less than half a millimetre in length – and translucent bodies, they’re barely visible to the naked eye. Their excrements feed fungi in mattresses alongside millions of bacteria. Dust mites themselves feed on flakes of shed human and pet skin cells, pollen and fungal spores.

Mattress Cleaning Service

At Jim’s Cleaning, our mattress cleaning service includes the removal of all dust mites, their excrement and any other debris that may have accumulated, such as dead skin and hair. Our method will restore your mattress back to a healthy and dust-mite free sleeping area, protecting you and your family. In order to keep it in the best possible condition, you should seek professional mattress cleaning services at least once every six months.

Our Cleaning Method

A Jim’s Cleaning specialist uses cutting-edge technology that vibrates and pulsates the mattresses, allowing powerful vacuum extraction to remove dead skin, dust mites and the excrement. We also use very effective cleaning solutions that thoroughly clean the mattress.

This removes any built up and ingrained dirt. Although we have excellent results with stain removal, we cannot guarantee the removal of every stain due to the nature of the materials that are used in the manufacture of mattresses.

We then apply an anti-allergen which is an integral part of mattress cleaning. This neutralizes any dust mites that might re-infest and will keep them away for a considerable time.

Your mattress is now thoroughly cleaned. In normal situations, you should be able to use your mattress within 15 minutes. However, in some circumstances, we may need to steam clean your mattress during the cleaning process. This may extend the drying process to a number of hours.

Mattress cleaning is a great idea for your home. It’s also highly recommended for rest homes, motels and hotels, boarding houses, pre-schools, prisons, dormitories, and in fact almost anywhere.
